On Wednesday October 3rd, I was privileged enough to experience the work of Claudia Havarria. She is an undergraduate Art Education student at CSULB and is a senior finishing her last semester. She plans to join the Credential Program. She has her own Instagram and website to promote her work and to hopefully get a job from one of those mediums.
Her work, Roses, was brought into the CSULB School of Arts Gatov Gallary West and the media she used was monotype. It looks like it was drawn on a piece of paper but it is much complicated than that. She had to use the tip of cardboard to outline and draw the roses. There was much detail put into the roses and you can tell they’re roses. The background of the roses was teal colored and the outline of the roses are white.
When she was deciding on what she wanted to do, she thought to herself and it finally came to her, do her project on roses. She decided to choose roses as her project topic because she likes roses and that happens to be her favorite type of flower. Roses are very difficult to draw due to the detail that it has and roses aren’t really drawn that often so she wanted to also go for the challenge of drawing them. She doesn’t believe in doing rough drafts, she believes in doing what’s comfortable to her and what she likes.
Seeing her first monotype work of art was interesting. It takes patience to be able to draw out roses and draw them perfectly. This is her first out of seven that she has to do in class. But she still hasn’t found the right medium for her. She enjoys to work on every medium but still can’t find what she wants to do. As her last semester is slowly coming to an end, she will find the right medium for her and be able to find a job with all the different types of mediums she has worked with.
